Rated 12 out of 13 [details] - "Nothing Left To Believe"

Coming out of Rhode Island, one of the last American states that us Brits are able to name, band leader Rob Shulze moved to LA where he got together with other musicians that had moved there from their respective beginnings: drummer Johnny Skaare from Seattle, bassist Miguel Galvez from Peru, and Joao Estrella Brandi on lead guitar from Brazil.
This 3-track EP, ‘Nothing Left To Believe’ • which was produced by Sylvia Massey (Tool, System Of A Down) • only disappoints because it has so few tracks! Immune have a unique sound that is part clean-cut college rock that could appear on the soundtrack to various teen movies, a sprinkling of deeper-edged angst, and a sparkle of glam - all shaken together with pure rock ethics!
The first song, ‘I’d Rather Die’, features Rob’s great vocals, which start from a gentle singing whisper to a full throttle harmonising singing voice that reminds me a little of Matthew Thiessen from Relient K. “If I can’t be someone of consequence // I’d rather die than have to crawl” he sings in this catchy opener. You can see the video to this song on the band’s myspace page: www.myspace.com/immunerock
‘In Your Place’ kicks off with melodic guitars that draw you in by starting gentle and building up into a killer song with a great chorus of, “I’m gonna light up the sky like the fourth of July // Until I’m wiping the smile from your face”.
The songs keep getting better and the final song, ‘3 Feet Deep’, has a fantastic verse that is simple and infectious, before opening up into a chorus that is slightly heavier than the two songs beforehand. This is my favourite song here, with it’s great drum beat in the background giving you something to nod your head to. If I had to suggest bands that they sound like, then I would say they remind me of a cross between Relient K and The Flys, the latter of which played alongside them recently at the release party of this EP!
‘Nothing Left To Believe’ has already found a home with over 20,000 people, and if they have another half a dozen songs of this quality then it would be a brave man that would bet against Immune releasing a real kick ass album. They tick all of the boxes that a new band should and I can’t help but feel that I am having the pleasure of reviewing them before they make it big. Immune are a band that if they stay on track have the potential to become a successful American band.
